Why Hawking's theory is flawed
IN his latest book, world-renowned British physicist Stephen Hawking has concluded that God was not necessary for the universe to come into being.
The following quote summarises Hawking's argument: "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing; why the universe exists, why we exist."
In my view, such a conclusion is scientifically flawed and violates one's fundamental "Belief in God" (the first of the Rukun Negara principles) as the creator of the universe and of mankind and all life.
Considering basic principles, when scientists talk about "Conservation of Energy", what it means is that in an isolated system, energy can't be created or destroyed. Because of Einstein's famous equation linking energy and mass, we can also state that mass is conserved.
Because matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, Hawking's statement that the universe created itself from nothing contradicts the basic principles of physics and the laws of thermodynamics.
Whether we call it "evolution", "natural processes", "laws of nature", "big bang" or "gravity", a plethora of diverse, testable evidence demonstrates that a supernatural God is necessary for each law itself and to order with infinite precision the entire creation and functioning of the universe.
We should thank God for creating our universe and us, and faithfully seek to serve Him with gladness by showing love and respect for all and being diligent and honourable in our endeavours.
